Donna ISD and La Feria ISD, Texas Regional Pathways Network students, participated in the first TRPN Virtual Mentoring workshop on June 21st and June 23rd. Mentors Janie Johnston Lopez and Dr. Norma Salaiz, RGV LEAD contractors, addressed the audience. The duo detailed employability skills and shared two welding employability skills videos as part of their presentation. Jody Collier shared welding tips and tricks at the first mentoring meeting. The second meeting highlighted “5 Mistakes Beginner Welders Make In Weld School.”Additionally, Lopez and Salaiz shared welding information from the RGV LEAD Labor Market Report and talked to students in greater depth about employability skills needed in any field. Students interacted with Lopez and Salaiz’s questions via chat and breakout sessions. They shared ways to sharpen their communication skills.The virtual mentoring program will continue in the fall.
