Educational Initiatives

RGV LEAD proudly partners with over 20 school districts across the Rio Grande Valley, providing a range of programs and services that support college and career readiness. At the high school level, RGV LEAD Ambassadors serve as student-led clubs that help organize career days, college readiness events, and other school-wide initiatives. Regionally, RGV LEAD hosts student conferences focused on industry demands and soft skill development, and connects students to national programming such as the National Contribution Project, GripTape, and TED-Ed Student Clubs.

For educators, RGV LEAD offers professional development and training sessions for counselors and CTE directors, and brings together superintendents and key district leaders for collaborative planning and alignment. Through these efforts, RGV LEAD works to strengthen the bridge between education and the workforce, empowering students and educators alike.

Our Work.

RGV LEAD understands that achieving upward mobility for youth and families in South Texas requires collaboration among educational, community, and industry leaders. While RGV LEAD serves as the intermediary between our district partners and industry, we approach our work by providing services and direct support to students, teachers, counselors, CTE directors, and superintendents. Our efforts are strengthened by guidance from local industry, priorities set by economic development corporations and workforce boards, and insights from local research.

Industry Initiatives

RGV LEAD connects industry directly to classrooms by inviting business and workforce leaders to serve on our Industry Council and engage in meaningful partnerships with schools. Through this collaboration, we create mentorship opportunities, support career days, and coordinate site visits, internships, and other hands-on learning experiences that expose students to real-world careers. Industry partners play a key role in shaping relevant programming and guiding students toward high-demand fields.

Each year, RGV LEAD hosts the State of Education & Industry, a signature event that highlights emerging industries in the Rio Grande Valley and explores how they align with local education initiatives. We also take time to recognize and celebrate Industry Champions—leaders and organizations who go above and beyond in supporting youth and workforce development in our region. Through these efforts, RGV LEAD ensures that industry voices are not only heard, but actively shaping the future of education and opportunity in the Valley.

Community Initiatives

RGV LEAD proudly hosts events throughout the year to recognize and celebrate Industry Champions—individuals and organizations that go above and beyond in supporting student success and workforce development. In addition to hosting its own events, RGV LEAD actively participates in career days, regional convenings, and workshops focused on the intersection of education and industry. By showing up on behalf of its 20 district partners, RGV LEAD ensures that the voices and needs of schools are represented, and that its work remains aligned with the evolving priorities of the community and regional economy.

Research Initiatives

As part of its commitment to aligning education with workforce needs, RGV LEAD produces a biannual Labor Market Report that highlights job availability across key industries in the Rio Grande Valley. The report is structured around TEA-approved career clusters and provides essential data to guide curriculum planning, student advisement, and program development. In addition to listing in-demand occupations, the report includes information on salary ranges, required education and certifications, and identifies which regional educational institutions offer the necessary training or credentials. This resource empowers school leaders, counselors, and students to make informed decisions about career pathways that align with both regional opportunities and long-term economic growth.
