“Don’t wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them great. Weak men wait for opportunities; strong men make them.”In reading this quote, I reflected on the past year and how the pandemic and the unexpected freeze have altered our way of life. We see the world through a different set of glasses. We don’t see germs and never have, but now we intentionally battle them. Homes, offices, hands, and even gas pumps are constantly disinfected, and we’re better for it! We are aware of germs! We think differently, too. Our thoughts are preoccupied with the “what ifs” and the “what’s next.” We are constantly looking for the next great thing to happen – which may distract us from appreciating what we have right before us. What exactly are we doing now? Can we make what we’re doing now better? Like Marden’s quote, I believe we can make things better. Think how much communication has improved through Zoom meetings. It’s incredible how much we have become active listeners and resisted the urge to chime in at any given moment.
I’ve reflected on how much home life has improved. People enjoy home-cooked meals, family time has improved, self-reflection has become vital, enjoying even walks is evident, and the list of seizing everyday occasions continues.
As you look around today, find a way to make everyday life extraordinary. Doing the little extras will lift not only your spirits but those around you.
Hasta la proxima vez!
~ Luis
