Rio Grande Valley Mentors

Updated: Sep 20

INTRODUCTION

RGV Mentors employs a "life coach" approach to mentoring to help students graduate high school with a mindset ready for college and career success. The program pairs Mentors (accomplished professionals from the community) with Protégés (high school students) to equip them for the demands of today's workforce.

RGV Mentors consists of two main components: School-Based Mentoring, tailored for freshmen and sophomores, and Community-Based Mentoring, which involves mentors from the business and community leadership fields. The program provides a curriculum to steer the mentoring process while allowing flexibility, along with guidelines and training on program regulations.

GUIDANCE FOR ACHIEVEMENT

RGV Mentors is a program centered around students. While it incorporates aspects of traditional tutoring, the objectives and process of effective coaching go beyond, aiming to empower students to become more proficient learners, rather than simply tackling daily challenges.

The foundation of the RGV Mentors program lies in assisting students in cultivating enduring success-oriented behaviors. Skilled professionals played a key role in shaping the initial program structure and curriculum. RGV LEAD continues to provide the Mentorship Training Guide to districts upon request, and also sends a representative to district mentorship events upon invitation.
