RGV LEAD hosted the Student Ambassador Fall Leadership Workshop on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, from 9 AM to 2 PM at the South Texas College Pecan Campus. The in-person event was inspiring for students since they had not been able to network with Ambassadors throughout the RGV since 2019 due to the pandemic. The event was held at Student Union U—2.100, 3201 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen, Texas.RGV LEAD would like to thank South Texas College and Dr. Esmeralda Adame, STC professor and RGV LEAD Board member, for providing the venue for the workshop. Students listened to inspiring stories from Lizzy de la Garza Putegnat, Titan Fuel’s Executive Director of Marketing & Public Relations; Alex Meade, Texas Regional Bank Executive Vice President for Economic Development & Public Finance; Dr. Rodney Rodriguez, South Texas College Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Economic Development and Board of Directors for RGV LEAD; Dr. Esmeralda Adame, Assistant Dean of the Business, Public Safety, and Technology Division and RGV LEAD Board member.Dr. Norma Salaiz and Janie Johnston Lopez, RGV LEAD contractors, spoke to students about what it means to be an RGV LEAD Regional Ambassador, which included roles and responsibilities. They also provided students a few minutes to “meet” other ambassadors sitting across the room to see what kinds of activities they were doing at their schools as ambassadors. Salaiz and Lopez talked about the upcoming Young Leaders Summit and allowed students to sign up for leadership activities during the summit, which will be held in January 2023.Students left the event eager to start doing Ambassador volunteer work at their campuses and begin preparing for the Young Leaders Summit. Yes, for the past two years, the Ambassadors kept up with their leadership development training via virtual meetings, but oh, it was great to see each other in person again!
