This year’s RGV LEAD Administrator of the Year is Judith Escamilla, Executive Director for Technology at McAllen Independent School District. Escamilla is an exceptional, forward-thinking leader. She leads her team with kindness, patience, intelligence, courage, and humbleness. She spends countless hours mentoring students and teachers in information technology, a highly demanded, highly skilled career. With her leadership, the district has started a student internship program where students can get hands-on experience in IT at both post-secondary and secondary levels.
Her outstanding dedication has transformed her department into the powerhouse it is today and impacts so many individuals daily.
This inspirational administrator has spearheaded a new technology within the district that allows students to access high-end software from a Chromebook. Through this technology, known as Virtual Desk Infrastructure (VDI), students can prepare for Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Solid Works for industry-recognized certifications. She has gone above and beyond and has collaborated with city officials to make this technology available throughout the community regardless of economic need. Her leadership has allowed the districts to be awarded millions of dollars in technology infrastructure.
