You know those moments. Those awkward times when you’re in a room with people you don’t know or, perhaps, at a meeting, and you want to get to know more about the people in your group.
Here’s a little tip on how to get to know people better. This icebreaker activity, presented by Heather Maye, Lyford High School Ambassador, was shared at the Young Leaders’ Summit.
Break up into small groups. Take some time to reflect on who you are as a person. Think about your interests, activities, hobbies, travel experiences, etc. Try to develop eight words or phrases that describe who you are. Share these unique traits with people in your group. If someone can jot them down, that’s even better!
Everyone in the group will follow suit. Once all the words are written down, start looking at all the commonalities you have in the group. You may find that you’re more alike than you are different, and you might want to learn more about the other person’s interests.
To get to know people, let them know about you and take time to learn about them.
