I am honored to have been selected as the next Executive Director for RGV LEAD.  With a start date of April 1st, who could have ever imagined that my first month in the role would be learning from my house in Brownsville, TX.

On March 25, a mandate for Hidalgo County was issued to Shelter at Home unless conducting essential business.  We at RGV LEAD, for the safety of our staff, partners and vendors have been working from home since the end of March.

As businesses are beginning to open, RGV LEAD is also beginning to make plans to have staff return to the office.  With that said, our staff continues to be proactive on the planning and leadership of events and meetings that have been canceled due to Covid19.  For example, the Regional P-16 meeting that was to have been hosted by South Texas College in Weslaco on May 13 will not be held.

At this time, we are planning to reschedule that meeting for a later date, and we have been in contact with Ryan Merritt of the Texas Education Agency about rescheduling his presentation as well.  We look forward to the day that we can come together safely for cross-collaboration to better the educational opportunities for our future leaders.

Stay safe.
Luis Rodriguez
Executive Director
